Microscopic bioengineered 'SnugBugs' were developed to travel to distant life-supporting planets, capturing images, collecting information, and transporting small artefacts back to their home planet.

With only limited data from the 'SnugBugs' to study, function is often misunderstood, scale uncertain, and language interpreted literally or through loose association. It is an understanding of fashion without cultural nuance.

Occasionally, Earth objects were able to be transported and studied. Scale was often misaligned and function was therefore guessed. They were also able to access snippets of sound, that was often interpreted literally or through loose association. using this data, Zi designs and produces all garments from her home planet.

The world

On a planet far far away (known as planet snug), advanced beings developed microscopic observers to collect data from other life- supporting worlds — they called them ‘snugbugs’. A designer from snug has used this data to inform her garments. However, without a true understanding of cultural nuance, the designs are largely based on assumption. This is the result. Clothing informed by Earth, but not of it.

The reality

SNUGBUG is an independent fashion label based in London. All garments are made in England by local seamstresses in small production runs using deadstock fabrics. Each printed garment is developed in collaboration with a different artists from around the world, making each collection a mix of global influences and individual perspectives. The brand is FLINTA-run and stocked in selected stores across the UK. (For current stockists, see Instagram) We work with both emerging and established creatives across photography, styling, art and design. SNUGBUG is built around collaboration and community — we host workshops and are always open to new projects or connections.
